Since 2017, the Grand Prix de Plouay for juniors have a good place in the season for riders aged 17-18. The first of seventeen races in the incredible week of Plouay promises a great show in the presence of the best elements of this generation, some will be there for prepare the European Championship which will be contested five days later on the same circuit. The Angevin Léo-Paul Jamin was the winner in 2019.

Grand-prix de Plouay Elite Open

Great classic in the amateur calendar, the Grand Prix de Plouay Elite Open, created in 2002, will live its 19th edition. To situate the value of this race, it's good to know that all the winners have raced among professionals. This is also the case of the last winner, the Vendéen Valentin Ferron, who will start his career this summer at the highest level in the team of Jean-René Bernaudeau, Total - Direct Energie.

Monday August 24

Individual Time Trial European Championships

The beautiful program of the European Cycling Championships of the UEC (European Cycling Union) will open this Monday with the individual time trial events. It will be a full day with no less than six races organized on the 25.4 km course (Plouay-Kernascléden-Plouay). The order of events is as follows: Junior Women, Junior Men, U23 Women, Elite Women, U23 Men and Elite Men. The title holders are Remco Evenepoel (BEL - Elites men), Ellen Van Dijk (NED, Elites women), Johan Price-Pejtersen (DEN, U23 men), Hannah Ludwig (GER, U23 women), Andrea Piccolo (ITA, Junior man) and Shirin Van Anrooij (NED, Junior woman).

All day on the Plouay-Kernascléden-Plouay lap = 25,400 km.

Tuesday August 24

Women's World Tour - Grand-prix de Plouay - Lorient-Agglomération - Trophée Ceratizit

A famous event on the international women's calendar since 2002, the Grand-prix de Plouay will live its 19th edition as part of the Women's World Tour. The best cyclists on the planet will be there to try to put their names on the palmares. To estimate the level of the event, eleven of the last fourteen world champions have be on the podium at least once. The title holder is none other than the current Olympic Champion, the Dutch Anna Van der Breggen, who had triumphed in 2019 with the rainbow jersey of World Champion.

Start at 8.50 am Arrival at 12. 42.7 km lap (Inguiniel, Lignol, Kernascleden, Berné, Marta) then 6 laps of the Circuit de Plouay. 42.7 km + 6 x 13.650 km = 124.600 km.

World Tour - Bretagne Classic - Ouest-France

It's the legendary event of Plouay, created in 1931 and having grown over the decades to become one of the greatest events in the cycling world. It will be its 5th edition under the name of Bretagne Classic - Ouest-France. A great race across Brittany, the Plouaysian race will present this year a route in the Morbihan and the Côtes d'Armor to reach Saint-Brieuc and its bay. The return by the steep roads of the center of Brittany will allow the best to make the difference. 37 municipalities will be crossed. The title holder is the Belgian Sep Vanmarcke.

Departure at 9:35 am. Arrival at 4:00 pm. 235,050 km loop (going to Saint-Brieuc) then 1 lap of the Circuit de Plouay. 235,050 km + 13,650 km = 248,700 km.

Wednesday August 25

European Championship - Women's U23

The U23 women (19-22 years old) will open the road races program for the European Cycling Championships. It will be for succeed the Italian Letizia Paternoster, member of the WorldTour Trek-Segafredo team, who won last year in Alkmaar in the Netherlands. It will be the 26th edition of this European championship in this category created in 1995.

On the morning. 6 laps of the Circuit de Plouay. 6 x 13,650 km = 81,900 km.

European Championship - Men's Elite

Since its first edition disputed in 2016 at Plumelec, with the victory of the Slovakian Peter Sagan, the Men's European Elite Championship has become a major event of the season. We saw also the Norwegian Alexander Kristoff and the Italians Matteo Trentin and Elia Viviani register their names on the prize list. Elia Viviani, now leader of the Cofidis team, is a regular at Plouay where he won in 2017.

On the afternoon. 13 laps of the Circuit de Plouay. 13 x 13,650 km = 177,450 km.

Thursday August 26

European Championship - Men's U23

The U23 men (19-22 years) will live the 26th edition of the European Championship of their age category with, on the program 10 laps of the Circuit de Plouay, it will be exactly the same distance as the Elite Open test on Sunday. It will be for succeeded to the Italian Alberto Dainese, now a member of the World Tour Team Sunweb.

On the morning. 10 laps of the Circuit de Plouay. 10 x 13,650 km = 136,500 km.

European Championship - Elite Women

Two days after their Grand Prix de Plouay counting for the Women's World Tour, the best women will race this time on the colors of their national team to try to win the stars jersey. It will be the 5th edition of this European Championship, the prize list of which was opened in 2016 in Plumelec. The title holder is the famous Dutch Amy Pieters !

Friday August 27

European Championship - Junior Women

The junior women (17-18 years old) will live in Plouay the 16th edition of the European Championship of their age category created in 2005. The selective circuit will allow the strongest to stand out. The Dutch will once again be the favorites with notably the defending champion Ilse Pluimers who won in her country in 2019, in her first season in the category.

On the morning. 5 laps of the Circuit de Plouay. 5 x 13,650 km = 68,250 km.

European Championship - Junior Men

Since 2005, the European Junior Men's Championship has been an important race in the 17-18 year old calendar. The event even smiled twice at Bretons since we saw Johan Le Bon triumph in 2008 and Franck Bonnamour in 2013 during a double with Elie Gesbert. Winner last year in Alkmaar, Ukrainian Andrii Ponomar will be able to defend his title, he won in 2019 in his first season in the category.

European Championship - Mixed Relay

New event during the 2019 season, the Mixed Relay European Championship is a team time trial is very popular for riders. Competitors will have four laps of the Plouay circuit to complete as a team time trial. Each team will consist of three men and three women, each trio covering half the distance with a halfway relay. In 2019, the title was won by the Netherlands ahead of Germany and Italy.
